Architectural Illustration

I believe that I spent more time on this last project than any other. The assignment was to recreate an illustration of a piece of architecture. The purpose was to be able to incorporate all the skills that we learned while using illustrator. I chose to illustrate The Louvre in Paris. Instead of choosing a well-known picture of the glass pyramid structure from the outside, I chose a more artistically challenging photo; shot form the inside. The illustration shows a beautiful winding staircase as well as crystal windows through which you can see another building behind it. I paid very close attention to detail and am very pleased with the outcome.

Type Portraits

The type portraits were VERY interesting to me. The technical idea was very easy to comprehend yet extremely difficult and time consuming to execute.

Shape- The shape portrait was the easiest to execute. I used a very recent picture with very defined shapes within it to create this piece. It was the easiest execution for me.

Line- The line portrait is my favorite project to date! I think the finished product not only encapsulated my emotion and expressions perfectly but it is very well defined. Little touches such as the jewelry and the attention to facial details really made this picture.

Value- My least favorite of the three. I had a lot of trouble with this project- as the original picture was very bright in certain places where definition needed to be accented. I was not able to fully grasp the technical ability to execute properly. However I am proud of certain aspects such as the earring details, and the hair and face outlines.

Magazine Cover

Our first assignment, the magazine cover, was a lot of work but was fun nonetheless.  I decided on a magazine that is pre-existent, Sports Illustrated. There are a lot of different elements that I incorporated in this piece. My favorite of which is the Giant helmet that I imposed in the magazine title. I used a lot of authentic colors that I pulled directly from the actual Sports Illustrated magazine layouts. Small touches such as the bar code and the magazine edition really make the magazine pop!

Tattoo Website Interface

The purpose of this assignment was to create a website interface so as to give us experience with web design. The name of the company was Primal Expressions, located in Houston Texas. I decided to use a combined native-‘primal’ theme. The background is an actual tattoo that some one received with the design of the state of Texas. The feature that I particularly like is the rollover effect that is used in the navigation bar. Primal type animals are used to mark the buttons on the bar.

West End Logo

This assignment was the only exercise in partnering that took place. The purpose of the assignment was to create a business logo for West End Real Estate in Denver Colorado, as well as office stationary. The image of the company is a local, classy, friendly type. Scott, my partner and I decided that we would use the classy aspect and give a simple black and white image for all stationary.

                                                               - Logo

                                                               - Logo options

                                                               - Business Card

                                                               - Stationary

                                                               - Envelope

Dreamscape

Days turn slowly to weeks

and weeks speed to years

The same way your smiles fade

and you discover your tears;

Not the ones you wipe away

in laughter fits

But the ones that run down your soul

And in a dark dwelling sits

among the troubles in your life

you though you had survived

But from which you now know

today’s problems are derived.

The more time that passes

The dwelling fills with tears

We all know what can happen

To tears collected through years’

The level continues to rise

Like a lake between mountains

And your hardships add stones

Not pretty ones- like fountains;

But dark

cold

slippery

stones.

Your tears surround you

And a hand pulls you down

You can’t swim through this

You fear you will drown:

Struggle and fight

You have to get through this

Think- if you don’t

All the good times you’ll miss.

From the dark come a light

your body stiffens with fright;

you are scared form head to toe

because deep inside you know.

Another light appears from below

it’s different- it has a warm glow

You know what it is and try to escape

The water is thick and heavy

It keeps you down

Like another closed gate.

The bodies of those who stand in your way

Block your path to freedom.

Hand from below are grasping, clawing;

They want you to stay with them.

You spot the light above once again

and it’s your last chance to escape

Bursting through the water’s surface

You breathe the air so sweet.

Climb onto the sandy tracks of life

And leave the prints of your feet.

Ahead you see your missing puzzle piece

That makes your life complete:

LEAVE the past behind you

Only carry the tale away

Step into a new season

A bright, more sunny day…

Time and Place

The Essential Toni Braxton album was released in February of 2007 as a compilation of Toni's best hits. She has always been able to keep me, along with many others, listening to her music- for most, her beauty was an extra benefit.

When I saw the album cover, I thought it would be a challenge

to re-create the shadows and the gradient affect as well as her pose (since there is a bit of a difference in our body sizes). The fun part was the hair and make-up. I can't really say there was a 'hard' part; it was just a lot of work. In the end, I had about 20+ pictures of myself to choose from which made the pose selection easier. I was very happy with the end result and am proud of the merging of the two bodies.
